Guiding Practices During the 2020-21 School Year

As the prevailing focus moving forward is our students’ social and emotional well being, the arts provide an invaluable outlet for expression and healing through these unpredictable times. This is not only an opportunity for us all to reexamine the important place the arts have in our schools, rather, this is a call for the arts to lead the way in navigating the road ahead.

The Creativity Continues document aims to support visual arts teachers as they return to school in September and resume instruction in either virtual, face-to-face, or hybrid plans for school operations.
While the information on this subject is constantly evolving, this living document will be updated accordingly. This document also is in no way intended to substitute or contradict any national or state health guidelines. Rather, it is a collection of suggested guiding practices for the field of art education during different modes of learning.

Art Educators are continuing education in different ways across the state whether through online platforms or distributed packets. Let’s work together to share resources, tips, videos, and inspiration for keeping Virginia Creative during Covid.

We are collecting resources for a google drive shared folder that will be linked on our VAEA website and a new VAEA YouTube channel.

We will continue to update links, resources, and inspiration as we work together to Keep Virginia Creative.
