A Message from the VAEA President
Welcome to the Virginia Art Education Association!
Our mission to promote, support and advance visual arts education in the Commonwealth of Virginia serves our students, the general public, and also each other as educators. The VAEA has been a voice for art education dating back to 1915. The world has continued to change but we remain committed to quality art education. The Virginia Art Education Association is fully joined with the National Art Education Association and shares common goals. Currently we are the largest affiliated state art organization in the country. We hope to advance arts education through professional development, leadership, research and service. We serve our members as the prime source of professional development in our field.
Many art educators work as the only person in their school teaching art. Many are in schools in remote areas of the state. Some are the source for sharing a museum collection with visitors. When we gather together at our annual conferences, we bring the passion of our teaching to share with each other. There is an overflowing of ideas and experiences, new people and old friends. We share our love of art, our journey in creating art, and our skills at teaching art to our students, whether they be elementary, middle-level, high school, or adults. The richness of our organization is that we are made up of an amazing range of educators: museum educators, university and college professors, researchers, retired educators, public school and independent school members.
